Crystal and I will never forget the day when we were asked to take Mike Brady in as our forever foster. When I picked him up I literally cried on the way home…With all of our fosters this was the first time I personally witnessed such abuse like that up close. He was blind with a tumor on his foot, his hair was completely gone on his back,he smelt, and was so fragile & frail. He was the poster image of neglect and abuse. After a few weeks with us his coat came back shiny and new, he gained some weight, and truly began to show his personality. He may have been blind but he sure didn't act like it! He would manage to find Crystal's shoes and walk around the house with them in circles. It was so adorable and just funny that we would just watch him and smile. Everyone who came to our home would snuggle, pet, and love on him constantly repeating how sweet he was. His presence in our home was so fitting that he quickly stole our hearts and became a member of the family. We are so grateful that the S.P.C.A. removed him from his horrible prior life and that D.R.O.H. gave us a chance to show him love in his senior years. All of the comments and cards regarding how blessed Mikey was to have us have been touching but we are the lucky ones. There is a hole in our hearts that can only be filled by continuing to speak out & volunteer for animals like Mikey that cannot speak for themselves. We find comfort in knowing that his vision is now crystal clear as he roams around on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
