5/22/13 - Update from Barbie!

I have had to force myself to write an update because I am way to busy for this. My foster mom said I must write to let everyone know how I am and what I like to do.

First, my foster family is really proud of me because I have learned that for dinner I must sit patiently for my bowl. My foster brothers get fed first and then I am third. I wait on my kitchen rug for my red bowl. My family says I am so smart and good. Second, I have also learned "night night". When my family says that I run to the crate and get in it waiting for a treat. I then usually stay in there because they are leaving, but that is ok because my crate is a nice place and I am always let out.

I tried swimming the other day - not good. My mom has said she will be getting me a life jacket so I get better. I think she is crazy. I like laying in the mulch under the big bush when it is sunny and warm, why do I need to get wet?? They do take me on walks and I am really good on a leash. I love being outside with all those smells. My favorite thing to do though is go to the soccer fields for games with my human foster brother.

I am a really happy dog with lots to offer a family. I would like to have a doggie friend to play with also. If you want a burst of excitement in your life than I am the forever dog for you!

Barbie had a great time at the "Kiss the Blarney Hounds" event! Here is what she had to say about her day:

Hi everyone - this is Barbie again. Do you see my beautiful collar in the picture? My foster mom made it for me for my very first outing for Dachshund Rescue. My foster mom wanted me to look super special to meet everyone. There were lots of nice people I got to meet and new doggie friends also. I was so tired from all the excitement I took a nap on the way home.

I have been doing pretty well with my house training. I still have an accident every once in a while, but for the most part I do pretty well. I have started to understand "night night". That means go to my crate and get a treat - I love it! My favorite activity is to sit with my foster family and snuggle up. I also like to chew on nylabones. These are new to me, but I am getting the hang of them. I sleep in my crate each night and only bark a little until I fall asleep. Sometimes I am so tired I fall asleep right away.

I have one more heartworm treatment left on April 8th. I am ready for my forever home soon. I love cuddling and naps!

Update from Barbie's Foster Mom:

Wow this has been so exciting to see Barbie grow over the past two weeks. She has figured out the routine at our house. She patiently waits for her turn to eat in line of 4 dogs. She sits and waits for her medicine. She loves to snuggle up with you, especially under a nice blanket. She is great on a leash. Barbie hardly ever barks, unless she is in her crate at bedtime. Her greatest asset is her beautiful eyes. They are not deep brown like the other three at my house, but an amber color. You can see an old soul in there but one trying to get younger with all the love around her. Her eyes will take you in.
